Whilst there are many so-called ‘hangover cures’ on the market, Bloody Mary is one of the few with a reputation for actually working. It’s refreshing, spicy and slightly alcoholic, and contains a large amount of vitamin C and other antioxidants to cleanse your body and increase your energy levels.

Bloody Mary does not have to be drunk as a morning-after cure – with its fruity flavour and detoxing properties it can be enjoyed at any time of the day. However, if you plan to enjoy it on a regular basis it’s probably best to leave out the alcohol once in a while!

The following recipe will make 1 glass of Bloody Mary.

Ingredients:

300g (11oz) ripe tomatoes

5ml (1 tsp) Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce

15-30ml (1-2 tbsp) vodka

1 lemon

some crushed ice

Equipment:

chopping knife

lemon squeezer

vegetable juicer

tall glass

Method:

1. Chop the tomatoes and push them through a juicer.

2. Squeeze the juice from the lemon and add to the tomato juice.

3. Add the Tabasco or Worcestershire sauce and vodka.

4. Pour over plenty of crushed ice in a tall glass.

5. Serve immediately and enjoy.
